The original NBA player, John Wall, considered suicide twice. “Hold A Gun Near My Head”
John Wall suffered greatly after his mother passed away; in fact, the NBA player considered suicide and twice placed a gun to his head.
The former Wizards guard revealed the startling information on “The OGs” podcast, which included former NBA players Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem. He claimed to have suffered greatly following his mother’s breast cancer death in 2019.
“My mom was my best friend,” the 33-year-old remarked.
“I put a gun to my head twice and a lot of people that are close to me, friends at the time didn’t know.”
Wall says that after inking a $170 million contract extension with the Wizards, dealing with the death of his mother was his “darkest moment,” compounded by a long list of injuries.
However, Wall decided against pulling the gun since the idea of leaving his two sons behind was too much to stomach.
“If I take myself away from this Earth, I’m failing my kids, like, who gon’ be able to raise them,” Wall stated.
“I know I gotta be there for them.”
Rather, the five-time NBA All-Star saw a therapist, which he still does, and is now encouraging other men who are experiencing mental health issues to follow suit.
“Go get help if you ever feel uncomfortable in your identity as a Black man, African American, or any other race—no offence intended. That’s OK, nothing is wrong with that,” Wall remarked.
“I had to figure that out or I wouldn’t be here today.”
In the 2010 NBA Draft, Wall was selected first overall. He has played a major role for the Wizards, Rockets, and Clippers. Throughout his 11 seasons, he averaged 18.7 points and 8.9 assists.
