The Boston Red Sox are still a dart throwing team.

Right-hander Chase Anderson is set to join with the Red Sox in free agency, according to a report published on Saturday by Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Anderson, 36, is getting a major-league deal.

After ten years in MLB, Anderson has made 200 starts and has a 4.35 ERA. He has already made appearances for division rivals Tampa Bay (2023) and Toronto (2020). Anderson finished the previous season 1-6 overall with a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

According to Cotillo, Anderson, who has also pitched out of the bullpen, can fill in for the Red Sox when needed as a spot starter or as a multi-inning reliever. Boston also needs depth, particularly because one of their biggest summer pitching additions is expected to miss the entirety of 2024 due to elbow surgery. The Red Sox have chosen to give Anderson a chance even if he may not have been the pitcher they had hoped to sign.
