Lakers want to get Spencer Dinwiddie “unlocked.”
The guard stresses his happiness while elaborating on his recent remarks regarding how his role with the Lakers is different.
LOS ANGELES Spencer Dinwiddie provided clarification on remarks he made last week while he was coming off of his highest-scoring performance since joining the Laker team last month—a 101-94 home victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Dinwiddie sat next to his locker at Crypto.com Arena and stated, “I know it kind of went viral when I made the comments about roles and stuff like that, but I’m happy.” “I knew that this was a fixed team when I came here. In other words, I wasn’t upset or anything when I made that comment.
Dinwiddie was alluding to a statement he made while talking about how his position with the Lakers differs from his previous roles with other clubs.
Dinwiddie was alluding to a statement he made while talking about how his position with the Lakers differs from his previous roles with other clubs. He likened his current position to that of Reggie Bullock on the Dallas Mavericks in 2021–2022, a team that Dinwiddie played for until the end of the season and advanced to the Western Conference finals.
Dinwiddie described Bullock as “sometimes he’d go 0-for-3, sometimes he’s 3-for-3 from three or whatever.” He discussed a few topics, one of which was making the effort. When discussing pluses and minuses, affecting, and how much he helped us. On that squad, he performed the selfless acts that let Jalen Brunson, Luka Doncic, and myself enjoy themselves and essentially ISO everyone every play.
“Obviously, you do need the generational LeBron [James], Luka-level talent. But after that, you are going to need, whether it’s 4-through-15 or 3-through-15 to be like just locked in, focused, dedicated to the goal. Dot connectors. Sacrificial in mindset and nature. And it doesn’t mean ‘not aggressive.’ It just means like, ‘Hey, you may have to swing-swing and give up one of your looks.’ You may only shoot four times. But if you can continue to try to take charges, try to be in the right position, all of this stuff, you guys can go far. It is technically foreign for me from what I’ve done in my career. Sometimes like I’m in a Reggie Bullock role getting graded on a Spencer scale sometimes. Whereas on a Reggie Bullock scale – no shot, again, that’s my dog, like I said, he was great for us – I feel like I’m doing really well. On a Spencer scale, obviously, I’m doing [expletive]. But like, I’m also not in that Spencer position either.”
To Dinwiddie’s point, he has had an influence even though his box score numbers haven’t been flashy, which has coincided with a decline in touches and usage. Since he participated in his first game as a Laker on February 13, he has the second-best individual plus/minus per game (plus-4.6) on the club.
Although he can also choose his areas offensively and keep the ball moving, Dinwiddie has wowed most on defense. However, Dinwiddie became more aggressive as a scorer in Friday’s triumph. His total of 11 points, 8 field goals, and 6 3-pointers made were his most as a Laker. Coach Darvin Ham explained, “It just comes down to him getting to know his teammates, finding his rhythm, knowing where to be on the floor, and just being in attack mode.” In terms of defense, he is a bigger guard who is strong, adept at footwork, displays his hands, and has the ability to get on-ball blocks—a very tough feat in this league. And we repeatedly witnessed him doing it.
All he’s doing is growing more at ease. Again, he is getting encouragement from everyone around him. since we will require him. He will also be involved.
LeBron James of the Lakers stated that the team needs to unlock Dinwiddie’s offensive potential, even though he didn’t go into detail about it.
“James stated, “We need to unlock that because he’s a difference-maker.” “Certainly, for him.”
