Spencer Dinwiddie is trying to use his few touches more effectively.
This season, the Los Angeles Lakers added veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie via a buyout, giving the team a dependable and adaptable backup option in the backcourt off the bench.
Though he hasn’t exactly found his calling yet, Dinwiddie has recently been performing better.Dinwiddie had his greatest offensive performance while wearing a Lakers uniform on Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers. He finished with three 3-pointers made, two assists, and 11 points as L.A. won.
After that, Dinwiddie gave LeBron James the most of the credit for locating him. LeBron generally did a decent job of hitting me for catch-and-shoot threes, Dinwiddie remarked. “The major one occurred, I believe, in the fourth skip pass.
However, I was lucky enough to knock those down, and Maxey was essentially doing the same thing on the other end on the drive that resulted in some free throws for me. Therefore, the referees said to me, “If you did the same thing, you’ll get it too,” while I was sort of playing politics with them. When it was time to do it again, I said, “Watch.” That is all that actually occurred. They came to me for a few good threes, which I was lucky enough to make, and it served as sort of payment for that performance.
For Dinwiddie, this is a different role because, when he plays for the Lakers, he often gets the ball in his hands significantly more often. The veteran is therefore trying to make the most of the touches he does receive. “Yes, I am attempting to,” Dinwiddie continued. “In general, I believe that I will be able to acquire a few more items here and there as long as I continue to locate my specialty and extras.
It wasn’t as if there was a significant shift in volume, or that I ran twenty to thirty pick-and-rolls or something similar. However, I was happy to have more possessions and made an effort to be as effective as I could, with the hopes that my offensive would be able to equal my defense.
What mattered this particular evening was that Dinwiddie appeared to be in a strong offensive stride. Regarding the factors that aid in maintaining his rhythm, the seasoned player was quite direct. “Shit, the ball” Dinwiddie remarked, laughing. “Again, you do realize that I have always been a high usage man throughout my career? Giving me the ball and seeing how many NBA players run identical plays, I believe the subtleties are in the spacing and where some players like to get the ball.
“I believe I’m beginning to see where Rui and AD want the rock and other such things. To be honest, all that’s left to do is acquire the belongings after that. It’s not like I’m in my third year of the league or anything; I’ve been doing this for a very long time. It’s quite the adjustment for Dinwiddie, since his usage rate with the Lakers right now is precisely half of his career average. However, he is prepared to adapt and do whatever the Lakers require of him in order to prevail.
