Max Belyeu defeats Baylor 11-1 using run rule, hitting three home runs.

The Longhorns scored four home runs and received outstanding starting pitching for the second day in a row.

In just eight innings on Sunday at UFCU Disch Falk Field, the Texas Longhorns defeated the Baylor Bears 11-1 by run rule to win the weekend series. Right-hander Max Grubbs recorded his second victory in as many weekend starts, with five runs scored in the first and five more in the eighth. Grubbs improved on his six-inning performance the previous week against Washington, allowing one run on five hits, one walk, and five strikeouts in seven innings, further solidifying his place in the weekend rotation. Grubbs reduced his season ERA to 2.28 with seven innings pitched and five strikeouts, both career highs for the Arlington Martin product. Right fielder Max Belyeu led the Longhorns in home runs scored with three of his own, marking his first multi-home run game of the season. With ten home runs this season, he leads both Texas and the conference in that statistic. The Longhorns hit four home runs in a game for the second straight day.

Belyeu went 3-for-4 with six RBI, his first home run coming in the first to cap off a five-run inning that also saw third baseman Peyton Powell single for an RBI, catcher Kimble Schuessler hit a two-run home run, and a run scored on a wild pitch.

A single shot by Belyeu in the fourth inning went 450 feet and cleared the batter’s eye in center field for his second home run. After Texas reached the eighth inning with three straight singles, second baseman Jack O’Dowd grounded out to bring the game to an end and bring the series victory to a dramatic conclusion. Baylor recorded the first out of the inning with a double, and the inning was sealed with a gland slam. Texas’s 10-game homestand this season comes to an end on Tuesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. On Thursday, the team will travel to Manhattan to play Kansas State.
