Lions debut Cameron Sutton, a cornerback, is still being sought by police despite claims of violence.
Although cornerback Cameron Sutton, 29, is still being sought by Florida authorities for alleged domestic assault, the Detroit Lions have released him.
Just one day after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office sent a news release requesting assistance in finding Sutton, the Lions made their announcement.
The Detroit Free Press was informed by a sheriff’s office representative
that a warrant was issued on March 7 following their response to a report about a domestic violence incident involving Sutton and an unidentified female that had occurred earlier that morning.
A representative named Phil Martello told the newspaper on Wednesday, “We served his warrant on the seventh because of all the evidence that we found there.” “I couldn’t locate him in Tampa. I believe he ran away. This is where we are at the moment. We have received a few hits on his license plate (on license plate readers), but we haven’t been able to locate him.”
Following six seasons as a player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sutton was signed by the Lions to a $33 million, three-year contract last season.
He was a major contributor to the team’s victories in two postseason playoff games and a division title for the first time in thirty years, both of which came about as a result of his efforts.
Sutton made a career-high 65 tackles and one interception while starting all 17 games during the regular season. In the team’s three playoff games, he started all three.
