Concussion status of forward confirmed by the Roosters
There’s another player on the Roosters’ injured list.
The NRL’s required 11-day concussion stand-down protocol will apply to Sydney Roosters second-rower Sitili Tupouniua following a head hit sustained during Thursday night’s victory over the Newcastle Knights.
Midway through the second half, Tupouniua, who had started the game from the bench in the close victory of 22 points to 20, got onto the court, only to leave again in less than two minutes.
The edge forward, who also played in the middle third during the preseason while recovering from a horrific ACL injury sustained last year, was declared a Category 1 patient by the NRL’s independent doctor, meaning he was never allowed to play again.
In light of this, Tupouniua, who had started all five of the Roosters’ games before coming off the bench last night, will miss the team’s Round 7 crucial match against the Melbourne Storm in Sydney. He will then be available for selection again on Anzac Day against the St George Illawarra Dragons. The Roosters will be looking to win two straight against the Melbourne Storm, who have struggled with uncharacteristic performances in the first half of the new season. The Roosters, in their medical update on Tupouniua, confirmed that none of their other players have any injuries to be concerned about.
Trent Robinson‘s side should get James Tedesco and Sam Walker back for the clash against Melbourne as well after they both suffered concussions last Friday against the Canterbury Bulldogs in a surprise loss.
Tedescoin particular is unlikely to be rushed back given his concussion history, however, the captain himself has revealed it didn’t seem as bad as other concussions previously, so the Roosters will be hopeful both players are able to line up next weekend.
